Lease Administration & Lease Accounting Analyst

A leading real estate investment, development, and management firm with a national portfolio of high-quality retail and mixed-use assets is seeking a team member to fulfill the role of a Lease Administration & Lease Accounting Analyst. Our team oversees dynamic, high-performing properties that require precise lease management and strong financial oversight. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional who can bridge both lease administration and lease accounting functions to support operational excellence and ASC 842 compliance.
Position Summary
The Lease Administration & Lease Accounting Analyst is responsible for maintaining accurate lease data, ensuring timely rent and recovery billings, supporting financial reporting, and managing all lease-related accounting under ASC 842. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who understands both the operational and financial sides of commercial real estate. The position works closely with property management, accounting, asset management, and corporate real estate teams to ensure the integrity of lease information and financial outputs for portfolio assets.
Key Responsibilities
Lease Administration
• Abstract new leases, amendments, assignments, and renewals with high accuracy.
• Maintain and update lease data in the lease management system.
• Track critical dates including expirations, renewals, options, and rent escalations.
• Review and verify landlord/tenant obligations, co-tenancy requirements, and operating covenants.
• Coordinate with property management on tenant communication, documentation, and compliance.
• Support CAM/tax reconciliations and annual budgeting processes.
Lease Accounting (ASC 842)
• Prepare and maintain Right-of-Use (ROU) asset and lease liability schedules.
• Process monthly journal entries for rent, straight-line rent, and lease remeasurements.
• Reconcile lease-related balance sheet accounts.
• Support quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.
• Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
• Ensure compliance with ASC 842 and internal controls.
Cross-Functional Support
• Partner with asset management to provide lease-driven financial insights.
• Assist with variance analysis and reporting for property performance.
• Support system enhancements, data clean-up, and process improvements.
• Provide ad-hoc reporting and analysis related to leasing and financial operations.
• Assist with Tenant Allowance processes
• Help standardize lease work exhibits and CCE formats
• Maintain and organize electronic files and facilitate cross access
• Manage construction invoice processes
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or related field.
• 2–5+ years of experience in lease administration, lease accounting, or commercial real estate operations.
• Working knowledge of ASC 842 required.
• Experience with real estate systems such as MRI, Yardi, LeaseQuery, CoStar, or Lucernex.
• Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret complex lease language and translate it into financial impact.
• Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, modeling).
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with retail or mixed-use portfolios.
• Exposure to CAM/tax reconciliation processes.
• Familiarity with private equity real estate reporting environments.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to use AI tools to maximize efficiency
